Crate Training For Dogs

Crate training for dogs is a great method used for housebreaking your dog. This is because a dog does not want to rest their head where they crap.

It  is the same as you. Would you want to rest your head where you crapped? Then why would a dog be any different.

Using a crate can be very effective if you do it properly. Do not use it for punishment because your dog did something she was not supposed to do.

For instance, you should not send her to her crate after you left her in the house alone and free to roam around to bite on your shoes or crap all over the floor.

You should actually put her in the crate before you leave the home to avoid these issues.

Here are some reasons you should have your dog in the crate:

  • You are done playing with her

Give her time outside of the cage and allow her to roam and be a part of the family. Play with her and show her affection and love. She will give all this love back, I promise you.

  • You know she is done going potty

When you are using crate training for dogs it is important that you let her out to go potty outdoors. You can actually release her just for this purpose. The moment she goes, you can bring her back in the home and to the crate.

  • Time for bed

Of course this should be her designated sleeping place. If you allow her to sleep elsewhere then you risk the chance of her urinating or crapping anywhere in the home throughout the night. Therefore, it is not advised to let her sleep in your bed or anywhere else other than her crate.

  • You are going out for a long period of time

As mentioned before, you should definitely have her in her crate when you leave the home. Do not allow her to go freely to do bad and mischievious things while you are gone. This will only frustrate you and cause you to become negative and we need you to remain positive as this is more effective.

When using crate training for dogs keep in mind that the crate is your friend as well as your dog’s. Do not abuse this system as it will back fire and your dog will despise the crate instead of love it.
